Match Report
Fettes College U9A vs  St Leonards Rugby Festival
On: Wednesday, 15 Nov 2017
Venue: Away

The Under 9s ventured over to St Andrews for the St Leonard's Festival. Our first match was against the hosts and we made a brisk start with tries from Freddie (3), Jonny (2) and Archie S which gave us a confidence building 6-1 victory. Loretto were tougher opponents and we had to be on top form to keep them out; one try each from the scorers from the first game saw us home by 3-0. The group would be decided by the result of our game against Craigclowan and this was, again, another step up. Eventually we managed to get two scores clear, but just as we thought the game was in our hands, the opposition pulled a try back and a nervous final play of the game was brought to an end when Ramsay crashed over. Top of the group and into the final against Cargilfield. This was a hard fought encounter, with both sides running and tackling hard with plenty of skilful handling on display. The narrow pitch restricted the pacemen a little and as the game entered the last minute Fettes broke from deep, managed to retain possession in the Cargilfield half despite ferocious defence until Archie S spotted a route to the corner and scorched over to give us a 1-0 lead. More committed tackling meant that we ran out winners in a game neither side deserved to lose ... but it was good to reverse the result of last season's final! Well done to all the boys, who have worked very hard and keep getting better.
