Match Report
Fettes College 1st XI vs  George Heriot's School
On: Saturday, 03 Oct 2020
Venue: at Home

Under the rainy and cold conditions of the Scottish weather on Saturday, Olivia Brannan, Fiona Cook and Maria McKenna made their 1st debut for the 1st XI girls. While being at a disadvantage of not playing against other oppositions, unlike Heriot’s. The whole team displayed great sportsmanship and work ethic for our first match together. The defence line up maintained composure throughout the match with Charlotte McDonald and Ella Walford who displayed great skills in tracking back and were consistently able to tackle or prevent our opponents from creating attacking strategies. Proving it to be difficult for Heriot’s to attack in our D. The midfielders on our team, provided a lot of support for both the defenders and the strikers. Special mentions to Jessica Alexander for outstanding fitness as she managed to offer her support everywhere around the pitch. Although, the opposition defence made it difficult for the strikers to shoot at target. They managed to cope with the pressure enforced by the defenders and created a lot opportunities using short passes. Well done for Marissa Maclean’s skills getting past the goalkeeper and strategically scoring in the bottom right corner. Even though, the work rate and composure throughout the match was exceptional, the team needs to work on using the space around the pitch and offering more support in tightly marked situations, by moving into or creating space. Overall, good effort for the first match of the season. MVP goes to Jessica Alexander for her incredible fitness, commitment, and her ability to constantly create opportunities to get the ball out of compact scenarios and for new attacking chances.
